The objective of IMRD is to train students worldwide in comparative analysis of EU and non-EU agricultural economics and rural development policies. The added value thereof, and of the joint MSc Course programme in particular, brings students into contact, through experiences in at least two EU countries, with both the common vision behind the European
view on rural development, and the diversity of approaches and applications of this European paradigm. Furthermore, the IMRD programme stimulates comparison with other rural development visions through intensive exchange with non-EU partners.
IMRD graduates have a unique combination of theoretical knowledge in development theories, agricultural economics and policies and practical based comparative knowledge of different approaches to rural development; and enjoy the competitive advantage when working in international organizations that deal with issues of global development, food trade and production of bio-resources, international food policies and so on.
Upon the successful completion of the IMRD programme, a graduate will be able to design and implement adequate instruments, methods, models and innovative tools to analyse, evaluate and solve specific and interdisciplinary related problems in the context of sustainable
development. The graduate can apply interdisciplinary tools to design, implement, monitor and evaluate national and international policies, programmes and projects, and is able to take up a trans-disciplinary role in an interdisciplinary (inter)national team dealing with global
challenges, and developing a global perspective.
